“Small in the Frame”
This photography series was captured during my time traveling across Europe and the UK. Spanning cities and landscapes in England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, and the Czech Republic. The work reflects my fascination with scale, solitude, and the emotional quiet that often lives in unfamiliar places.
Inspired heavily by the composition and emotion of classical painting, my travel photography leans away from portraits or centered human subjects. Instead, I focused on wide landscapes, soft lighting, and natural geometry to explore how small we are in the context of our environment. The absence or minimized presence of people is intentional. It allows space for the viewer to step into the frame themselves and reflect on how expansive and overwhelming the world can feel. Muted tones, long shadows, and panoramic compositions were all focuses in building this body of work. The imagery aims to evoke awe and calm in equal measure, borrowing techniques from landscape painting to convey not just where I was, but what it felt like to stand there. It’s photography that leans on stillness, space, and emotion rather than action.
